Today we are pleased to be interviewing author, CL Bledsoe as part of our Celebration of Authors, Readers & Books – 2017. Let’s jump right into the interview:

Does writing energize or exhaust you?
Writing is the best way I make sense of the world, so it usually energizes me. If I’m dealing with something, writing helps me work through it, even though I’m rarely writing specifically about my problems. Editing exhausts me because I’m usually on a tight deadline and have more to do than I really can, but I still have to get it done.

How long on average does it take you to write a book?
It usually takes me two months to write a book, give or take. I’ve written them faster. I try not to take any more time than that. I set a strict quota every day to ensure I get the work done.

How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?
Publishing my first book made me a lot more serious about my writing. I spent quite a bit of time on my first novel. My second one came because the publisher was looking for certain genre books (urban fantasy). I’d never written that before, but I pitched an idea. The publisher asked for an outline and two chapters, so I wrote those. They liked those, so I wrote the book. I’ve been much for focused and driven since then.

What are you working on now?
I’ve recently completed a middle grade fiction novel, and my agent is shopping it around. Right now, I’m writing a farce I really hope works out!
